Repentance

We believe that forgiveness and pardon of sins comes through genuine repentance, which is a confessing and forsaking of one’s sins. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

The word “repentance” means a change of views and purpose, a change of heart, mind, attitude, and lifestyle. It is the beginning of our transformation (Romans 12:2). True repentance means that we turn away from our sins and sinful desires.

John the Baptist preached repentance, Jesus proclaimed it, and the apostles emphasized it to both Jews and Gentiles (Acts 2:38; 11:18; 17:30). Jesus said, “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). Luke 24:47 says, “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
